Scrawling Notes

If you've ever been curious about what a writer's notebook REALLY looks like (or at least mine), check out my guest blog post at Sharing Our Notebooks this week. This is a fun new blog posted by Amy Ludwig Vanderwater that peeks into people's notebooks. Oooh... can't wait!!  I'm going to be checking it out regularly. Are other writers as messy as I am? Do they make ever stranger notes than I do?

P.S. Yes, this is a bank deposit slip. I write on the front of them, too, sometimes!

Haha, wow I love your way of jotting down ideas, if only I could use deposit slips instead of paper in English class, it'd be so much more fun but YAY :D Ms. Mazer you're back! <3

You're following us on our Spilling Ink blog, right, Sam? We'll be putting up another Mazer/Potter post on November 7th. As for the book... sorry, I can't tell you yet! But as soon as we make it public, you'll be the first to know. (We'll announce it on our blogs.) And Ellen and I are committed to posting more regularly on the Spilling Ink blog, so you can read us both there! :-) -- Anne

hi Mrs Mazer!
spilling ink is great!! no, i mean beyond great! no, i mean.....whoops. sorry.
anyway, i have a question...i am writing a book, but i tend to ramble (i do that in the real world, too) and get off track with my storyline. then, i realize i'm rambling and try to jerk my story back in line but by then i have to delete half of my work because its so monotonus and random!! see... i kinda did that just now!! any advice?

Hi Samantha,

Thanks for the sweet comment. :-)
Rambles can take you to some interesting places. Why not try this experiment: let yourself ramble as much as you like, but finish your story. Put it away for a few weeks. When you take it out, see what you think of your rambles. You may find something valuable in them. Or you may not. You can always rewrite! Good luck! -- Anne

P.S. if you have more writing questions, you can ask them on the spilling ink website: www.spillinginkthebook.com Click on Ask Us Anything. Ellen Potter and I answer questions whenever they come in.

Love that bank slip. I think I'll post a photo of my computer (sprouting dozens of post-its around the edges)!

That looks suspiciously like one of my notes that pile up next to my computer and get tossed out after incorporation into the WIP. I can't seem to keep notebooks.
